VOLKMAN, KIRSTEN A. (Age 36)
Died Sunday, January 12, 2003, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Darr, NE.
She was a 1988 graduate of The American University and attended graduate courses at George Washington University. Following graduation from American, Kirsten worked for eight years in Washington as a paralegal for Benner, Burnett & Coleman and later, for the Cuneo Law Group, P.C. While at the latter firm she became a lobbyist on telecommunications issues and edited the newsletter of the National Association of Securities and Commercial Law Attorneys.
In 1996, she returned to live in her childhood home of Lexington, NE. Both in Washington and in Nebraska, she was active in animal protection causes and organizations. Kirsten was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington.
She is survived by her father, Richard; her mother, Maureen Lauby and her stepfather, Greg Lauby.
Funeral services will be held on January 25, 2003 in Lexington, NE.

Kirsten A. Volkman
LEXINGTON - Kristen A. Volkman, 36, of Lexington died Jan. 12, 2003, as the result of a motor vehicle accident near Darr, NE.
She was born July 1, 1966, at Scottsbluff to Richard and Maureen Pieper Volkman. She graduated from high school at St. Ann's in Lexington in 1984. She then went on to further her education in Lincoln and finished her degree at the American University in Washington, D.C. in 1988. She took graduate classes at George Washington University also in Washington, D.C. She worked as a Congressional Lobbyist in Washington. She was a strong supporter of animal protection organizations.
Mis Volkman was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. She enjoyed the Arts, reading and animals. Her kitty "Holly" was a special joy to her.
Survivors include her mother, Maureen Lauby of Lexington; her father Richard of Ponca; her step-father Greg Lauby of Lexington; the extended Lauby family and many, many friends in Lexington as well as in Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her Aunt Mae Lauby and uncle Joe Lauby.
The family has chosen cremation with the services to be at a later date.
